Voukatio (fortress of Paravola)

On the north bank of the lake Trichonida, near the Municipality of Paravola, the remains of an imposing fortress stand on a hill near the cemetery and the Byzantine church of Mary of the Fortress (Assumption of Mary). This fortress and ancient settlement is known as "Voukatio". What remains today from the fortress is the walls of the acropolis and its round towers and part of the city walls. The fortification walls were constructed during the 4th century B.C, while the semi-circular and square towers were built during the Byzantine period.
